Arrange For Home Care Services

If you live by yourself and you need temporary assistance at home after surgery, consider arranging for home care services. It is very likely that your insurance will cover all, or at least part of the cost. In addition, you'll have the peace of mind that you are being cared for by professionals who have been beautifully trained and who have experience in the home care field.

Hire A Registered Nurse

Some of your medical needs might require the help of RNs, or Registered Nurses. For instance, the registered nurse will be able to administer your medications appropriately. In addition, he or she will monitor your medical records. The nurse will monitor your behavior day by day to make sure that you are progressing toward full health and full mobility. If the RN has concerns regarding your progress, he or she will consult directly with your surgeon and with other doctors. For example, if the nurse has a strong feeling that you are experiencing depression, the doctor will be alerted so that appropriate action can be taken to help you.

Since you will have had surgery, your wound will need to be checked and changed periodically. The nurse can take care of that for you. The nurse will make sure that you get the proper amount of exercise so that you can get back to daily living soon.

Don't be surprised if you are cared for by different nurses on different days. They will keep each other informed about your health needs. For example, if you are supposed to take pain medication before serious pain occurs, the nurses will have recorded that in your paperwork.

In Home Caregiver

The time might come when you won't need the RN to stay with you the entire day. However, you might still want the help of an in home caregiver. He or she will help you to do personal tasks like bathing and washing your hair. The in home caregiver will probably also be very happy to do things like washing your clothes and then folding them.

The caregiver will also be prepared to make simple meals and to keep your house or your apartment tidy. If you need errands run, the caregiver will probably be very happy to do that, too.

Part of the caregiver's job will be to simply spend quality time with you. If you enjoy a daily walk, for instance, the caregiver will probably be happy to take you. Of course, the caregiver will make sure that the nurse or the doctor have approved that.

About Me

Getting Help At Home

When I was diagnosed with cancer, I was devastated. In addition to confronting the realities of chemotherapy and radiation, I was also faced with the prospect of spending a lot of time in hospitals. However, one of my doctors recommended home health care, and I can truly say that it changed my life. In between treatments, I could stay at home, where I was able to work, play with my grandkids, and do a little housework. The opportunity to stay home really helped me to find solace during my treatment, which meant a lot to me. My blog is all about the benefits of home health care, so that you can decide if it is right for you.
